MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police Tuesday (April 27, 1999) seized 1,892 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to 5 feet and arrested two people as part of their continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The plants were seized in the Waawaa, Fern Forest, Eden Roc and Kapoho areas of the Puna District.

Joining Big Island police officers in the eradication enforcement effort were personnel from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Hawaii Army National Guard and the State Department of Conservation and Resources Enforcement.

Acting on a search warrant at 1:15 p.m., officers arrested a man and a woman after confiscating 43 marijuana plants 3 to 4 feet in height and 7.5 grams of dried marijuana on their property at Eden Roc.

Daniel Davies, 39, of Honolulu, and Patricia Longo, 37 of Eden Roc, were arrested for one count of commercial promotion of marijuana and two counts of promoting a detrimental drug. They were released pending further investigation.
