MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police arrested the father of a 14-year-old girl who had been sought since he allegedly abducted his daughter Friday (October 6, 2000) from the Hilo Office of the Child Protective Services.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday, Puna police spotted the suspect, Mark Steven Nicoll, 46, in the royal Hawaiian Estates subdivision in Volcano. Nicoll’s son, Mark A. Nicoll, 21, was also arrested for being involved in the same incident. Both were being held in the Hilo police cellblock pending further investigation.

The daughter, Napua Nicoll, was returned to CPS protective custody.

The father, son and daughter were at meeting Friday with state CPS workers who were investigating family abuse allegations.

According to CPS personnel, the father became angry when told his daughter would remain in protective custody with the agency pending further investigation. The father then allegedly assaulted a CPS worker and forcibly removed his daughter. His son allegedly helped his father in the incident.
