MEDIA RELEASE

Forty-one basketball teams will compete in the first “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to be held Saturday, March8, and Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Konawaena Gymnasium.

From 160 to 200 youths and teens aged 8 through 17 are expected to take part in the tournament.

All participants and their parents have pledged to use their seat belts while riding in an automobile.

“We are using this athletic event as a forum to provide education and awareness of our seat belt laws,” said Sergeant Randy Apele of the Traffic Section.

“Most people are unaware that state law requires all youths and teens 4 through 17 years old to be seat belted whether they are a front or rear passenger. As a result, only about 38 per cent of our children are seat belted as passengers in the back seat of cars.”

The public is invited to attend the tournament.

On Saturday games will be played from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and on Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
