HI-PAL registering teams for summer baskeball 05-19-03

The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League is sponsoring the 2003 HI-PAL Summer Basketball League for East Hawaii.

The league is open to boys and girls in the following age divisions: 5 and 6, 7 and 8 and 9 and 10. There will also be a Girls 12 and Under and Girls 14 and Under division.

The deadline for registration will be on Thursday, May 29.

Players may participate in only one division, and there is a limit on the number of teams in each division.

HI-PAL will also take registration for the boys and girls 11 and 12 and 13 and 14 divisions from May 26 to June 12.

League games will start on June 16 and end on July 26, 2003.

A mandatory meeting for coaches of 8 and Under, 9 and 10 and all Girls divisions will be held at 6 p.m. on May 29 in the Hilo police station training room. Topics to be discussed will include league format, rules and regulations and starting date.

Basketball players who played for their high schools at the junior varsity or varsity levels will be ineligible. Boys and girls who have reached their respective age by December 31, 2003, will be eligible to play in their age division.

Teams interested in entering the league are encouraged to call the HI-PAL office at 961-2220 or 961-2219 as soon as possible.
