High school vandalized before opening day 07-29-04

Waiakea High School was hit by vandals sometime between Wednesday night (July 28, 2004) and early Thursday morning just before the school opened for the fall semester.

Responding to a 5:48 a.m. call, South Hilo patrol officers determined that several buildings and three vehicles on campus were defaced with graffiti.

In addition, glue was inserted in the locks on the doors of several rooms.

There was no immediate estimate of the amount of damage.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the vandalism or the identity of the vandals to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
