A two-story Hilo home was heavily damaged by fire Friday (October 1, 1999).

Responding to a 12:25 p.m. call, police and fire rescue personnel arrived to find the wooden structure, located at 9 East Uluwai Street, engulfed in flames. Firefighters had brought the flames under control by 12:50 p.m.

The home, owned by Herminigildo and Virgilia Caoagdan, suffered heavy damages to the lower floor, where the fire started. The upper floor was also damaged, police said.

Damages to the house and its contents were estimated at roughly $150,000.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, which was discovered by visiting relative.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
