Media Release (update)

Detectives from the Hawai’i Police Department’s Area I Criminal Investigations Section charged a 47-year-old Mountain View man Sunday (May 30) in connection with the stabbing death of his wife in the early evening hours of Saturday (May 29).

Responding to a 6:23 p.m. call Saturday of an affray on Kamehamehea Avenue, South Hilo patrol officers determined that a woman had been stabbed several times.

The suspect was identified as Steve Dingle of Mountain View.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Catherine Dingle, also of Mountain View, was taken to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition. She expired after emergency surgery and was pronounced dead at 1:05 a.m. Sunday.

The victim and suspect are husband and wife. No motive has been established.

Steve Dingle was charged with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $1,000,000. He is being held at the Hilo Police cellblock pending his initial court appearance.
