MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hilo Juvenile Aid Section detectives have charged a 22-year-old man with a variety of sex offenses resulting from the sexual assault on a woman late Tuesday (March 28, 2000) in Hilo’s Kanoelehua Industrial Area.

At 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Mark Silva, of no permanent address, was charged with one count of attempted first-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree sexual assault. He is being held in lieu of $26,000 bail.

Investigating officers determined that an adult Hilo woman was getting out of her car at a Holomua Street address shortly before midnight when she was approached by an unknown male.

The suspect grabbed at the woman and sexually assaulted her, but was unable to get her out of her car.

At 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, police arrested Silva.
