MEDIA RELEASE

A 52-year-old Holualoa man died Sunday (November 26, 2006) from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Walua Road and Lunapule road in Kailua-Kona.

The victim was identified as Mark A. Bucholz of Holualoa.

Responding to a 7:10 p.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that the victim was traveling east on Walua Road and operating a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he lost control, crossed the centerline and struck an embankment. He was not wearing a helmet.

Fire rescue personnel took Bucholz to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m.

Police believe speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.

Traffic Enforcement unit officers have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 32nd traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared with 32 at this time last year.
