For the fifth year in a row, Big Island police are joining forces with the Hawaii County Fire Department to bag groceries during the “Hawaii Island United Way-KTA Bag Brigade.”

This year’s fund-raising project, led by the Fire Department, began September 23, 2006, at the Waikoloa Village Market and will conclude on October 28, 2006, at the KTA Superstore in Kailua-Kona.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on designated Saturdays, police officers and firefighters will bag groceries and collect donations for the United Way.

Police Chief Lawrence Mahuna cited the fund-raiser as another example of how Hawaii Police Officers demonstrate the Police Department’s commitment to working in partnership with the community.

The uniformed baggers will be at the following locations on the following dates:

KTA Puainako and KTA Waimea, September 30, 2006.

KTA Downtown, October 7, 2006.

KTA Kailua-Kona, October 28, 2006.
