The Hawaii Police Department is warning the public about a possible insurance company telephone scam.

A Hilo woman reported that someone called her home Monday morning (September 22) claiming to be from an unnamed auto insurance company. The caller asked the woman for her driver’s license number.

Police remind the public that it is risky to disclose personal information over the telephone.
