Kaumana Cockfight Raided 02-03-01

Vice officers in South Hilo dispersed a crowd of about 300 people present at a cockfight Saturday (February 3, 2001) in Kaumana.

At the scene, 19 dead and three injured gamecocks were recovered.

Although they made no arrests, Hilo Vice Section officers are continuing their investigation to determine the identity of the organizer and other responsible individuals.

“We would like to thank the public for its assistance in bringing this activity to our attention,” said Detective Randall Medeiros of the Hilo Vice Section.

“We are asking for the continued cooperation from members of the community interested in aiding police in combating these illegal cockfights and illegal gambling that is associated with it.”

Any information about Saturday’s fight or future cockfights may be reported to the Hilo Vice Section at 961-2258, the Kona Vice Section at 326-4240 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
