Big Island police are investigating a report of shots fired on Hao Kuni Street off Palani Road on Tuesday (January 2) in Kailua-Kona.

Responding to a 5:54 p.m. call Tuesday, Kona patrol officers determined that a 66-year-old man was shot at several times during a confrontation near his home. The victim was not injured during the confrontation and the suspect fled the scene.

While conducting the initial investigation, officers developed a suspect. At 8:55 p.m., a 43-year-old man was taken into custody without incident at a Peleniki Street address in Kailua-Kona. He is being held for further investigation.

Criminal Investigation detectives have initiated an attempted murder investigation.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information about the case to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
