Hawaii County police have teamed up with several other organizations to sponsor a bowling tournament for young people living in public housing in Kona.

The goal of the bowling tournament, which will last six weeks, is to involve young people 6 through 17 in drug-free activities that promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The tournament will be held through April 13, 2002, at Kona Bowl in Kailua-Kona.

Sponsoring the event are the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League, Hope Chapel-Kona, Kona Community Policing Program, Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaii and Urban Real Estate Company.

As part of the tournament activities, the Hawaii County Police Department will provide educational sessions designed to enhance the participants’ understanding of crime and drug prevention measures.
