MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Final autopsy results Friday (April 16, 1999) determined that a 36-year-old man who died in police custody last February died of mixed chemical intoxication and that there was no foul play involved.

Toxicological tests showed that Rodell Rudel, of Kaloko mauka, North Kona, had lethal amounts of Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen in his system. There was also a presence of Ethanol, Benzodiazepines and Methamphetamine in his system when he died in the Kona police cellblock on February 4, 1999.

Rudel had been arrested for abuse of a family or household member.

Police have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest and closed its investigation into Rudel’s death.
