A 36-year-old Kailua-Kona man is in police custody in connection with a domestic dispute last month.
James S.K. Smith is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending further investigation of possible charges.
The investigation stems from an incident on April 12, when Smith and his estranged wife, a 35-year-old Kailua-Kona woman, got into a verbal argument at his property that escalated. Smith allegedly prevented the woman from leaving his property by closing a gate and then threatened her, damaged her sports-utility vehicle, entered the SUV, pulled her out of the driver’s seat and fled the scene before police arrived. The woman was not physically injured in the altercation.
Kona patrol officers arrested Smith on Wednesday morning (May 11) on suspicion of unlawful imprisonment, terroristic threatening, criminal property damage and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.
