Kona police captured an escapee Friday (December 1, 2000) in an abandoned residence in Kaohe, South Kona.

Acting on an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip, detectives from the Kona Criminal Investigation and Vice Sections and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration arrested Raleigh Freitas, 27, at 7:50 a.m.

They also found two stolen vehicles on the property.

Freitas was charged with second-degree escape, second-degree burglary and criminal trespass. He is being held at the Kona police station in lieu of $125,000 bail.

Freitas had escaped while making an appearance on November 22, 2000, in the Kealakekua, Kona, Circuit Court. He was in the custody of adult corrections officers from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center when he escaped while still in handcuffs.
