A 48-year-old Big Island man was killed Thursday night (November 30, 2000) in a one-vehicle traffic accident on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) in the Mountain View area of the Puna District.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Responding to a 10:54 p.m. call, police determined that the victim was traveling south in his 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck about 0.3 miles south of the 18-mile marker when he crossed the centerline, ran off the left shoulder of the road and hit a utility pole.

The victim was transported to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m. Friday.
