MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

A female adult was seriously injured during a burglary and sexual assault Thursday (April 20, 2000) when a nude male confronted her in her apartment.

Responding to an 11:20 p.m. call, Kona police learned that the victim was alone in her Kalaoa residence when she was attacked by a naked male brandishing a knife.

The suspect struck the victim and sexually assaulted her. He also cut the victim’s face and neck with the knife. The victim was able to escape from her apartment and run to a neighbor’s residence for help. She was later taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

The suspect was described as a local male about 5-feet-8 or 5-feet-9 in height, clean-shaven, with short “ehu-colored” hair. The suspect also sustained scratches and bite marks from the victim while protecting herself.

Anyone with information about the burglary and sexual assault is asked to call Detective Theodore Gaspar of the Kona Criminal Investigation Section at 326-4231 or Detective Samuel Kawamoto of the Sex Crime Unit at 326-4233.
