Kona shooting (update) 12-21-06

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section in Kona are investigating a shooting Wednesday evening (December 20) as an attempted murder.

Kona patrol officers responded Wednesday to a 10:11 p.m. report of shots fired in the old industrial area in Kailua-Kona. They determined that a 32-year-old man living at no permanent address in the Kailua-Kona area had been shot.

Fire/Rescue personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in guarded condition.

Steven Galyinug, 23, of Kalaoa was arrested at the scene and is being held in police custody without charges pending further investigation. Another suspect was arrested at the scene but released pending further investigation Thursday.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has any additional information to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
