A 41-year-old Kailua-Kona man was shot to death Saturday (June 17, 2000) at his workplace in the Kailua Industrial Area, and a suspect later turned himself in to police.

Responding to an 11:44 a.m. call, officers determined that Kenneth Kaniho Jr. had been shot to death at Pacific Waste Inc. on Pawai Street.

The victim’s alleged assailant, a 71-year-old Kailua-Kona man, turned himself in at the Kailua police station, where he was arrested for murder at 12:23 p.m.

Kaniho was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m.

Kona Criminal Investigation detectives are continuing the investigation.

No further information on the shooting was immediately available.
