Alex Joseph Ackles
Charged with attempted murder

MEDIA RELEASE (UPDATE)

Detectives from the West Hawaii Criminal Investigations Section charged a 22-year-old man with second-degree attempted murder on Wednesday.

Alex Joseph Ackles of no permanent address was charged after detectives determined that he was responsible for the stabbing of a 60-year-old man following a dispute Monday evening (September 4, 2006).

The victim, who also had no permanent address, sustained a stab wound to his abdomen and is in guarded condition at Kona Community Hospital. He is expected to recover from his injury.

Detectives have recovered the knife believed to have been used in the altercation.

Bail for Ackles has been set at $50,000. He remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center until his court appearance.

The West Hawaii Criminal Investigations Section is continuing its investigation and asks anyone who may have information about the case to call Detective Zachary Houchin at 326-4646, extension 262, or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.
