Man apparently drowns in waters off South Kohala 07-19-05

A 40-year-old man apparently drowned Tuesday (July 19, 2005) in waters off Anaehoomalu Bay in South Kohala.

The victim was identified as Houman Emami, of a Honokaa address.

Responding to a 7:15 p.m. call, South Kohala police determined that the victim was found floating face down in waters near the shore. Bystanders had tried to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until police and fire rescue personnel arrived.

The victim was taken to the North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m.

Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
