Big Island Police and members of the Statewide Marijuana eradication Task Foce confiscated 7,131 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to six feet during a five-day operation that ended Friday (May 25, 2001).

This week’s marijuana sweep – which covered areas of the South Kohala, Hamakua, North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna and Ka’u Districts – was part of the Police Department’s continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation”.

The operation concentrated on the areas of Waimea, Paauilo, Kukuihaele, Laupahoehoe, Papaikou, Kaumana, Kaiwiki, Hilo, Mt. View, Kapoho, Pahoa, Volcano, Pahala, and Kapapala.

No unusual incidents were reported, no arrests were made, and no booby traps were found.
