County, state and federal law enforcement officers confiscated 3,736 marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to five feet during a five-day operation that ended Friday (April 27, 2001).

Big Island police were joined by personnel from the Honolulu Police Department, State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Hawaii Army National Guard and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

This week’s marijuana sweep — which covered areas of the Hamakua, North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna and Kona Districts — was part of the Police Department’s continuing “Counter-Cannabis Field Operation.”

The operation concentrated on the areas of Paauilo, Honokaa, Mauna Kea, Laupahoehoe, Waipunalei, Hakalau, Kaiwiki, Glenwood, Mountain View, Kukui Camp Road, Opihikao, Kurtistown, Keaau, Pahoa, Keonepoko Forest Reserve, Kapoho, Kalapana and Keauhou mauka

No unusual incidents were reported, no arrests were made and no booby traps were found.
