Hilo patrol officers found a 4-year-old Hilo girl safe after searching nearly two hours Tuesday (September 19, 2006) in response to a missing person report.

Responding to an 8:40 a.m. call, police learned that the girl had arrived at Kapiolani Elementary School in Hilo around 8 a.m. and later was missing from the school.

Police searched for the girl with the help of the Juvenile Aid Section’s search-and-rescue dog, along with assistance from the Hawaii County Fire Department, the county helicopter and volunteers.

Police made contact with the girl’s mother at 10:10 a.m. and learned that the girl was safe and had been with her the entire time.

The case, originally classified as a missing person, was closed as unfounded.
