MEDIA RELEASE

A 53-year-old Kona man died Tuesday night (March 25, 2003) following a motorcycle accident that occurred at 8:12 p.m. on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) near Hinalani Street.

The victim was identified as Don MacDonald, 53, of Kalaoa.

Responding to an 8:12 p.m. call Tuesday, police determined that the victim was traveling south on the highway when he lost control of his 1982 Yamaha and was thrown from his motorcycle. While lying in the roadway, the victim was then struck by a 1990 Nissan 300ZX, also traveling south on the highway, operated by Lance Kikumoto, 42, of Kalaoa.

The victim was pinned beneath the Nissan and was later pronounced dead at the Kona Community Hospital at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Police have opened a standard negligent homicide case, and Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing the investigation.
