MEDIA RELEASE

A 57-year-old Keaau man died Sunday (April 23, 2006) from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle/motor vehicle collision Saturday (April 22, 2006) on Highway 11 near the Mt. View Post Office.

The victim was identified as Glen A. League of Keaau.

Responding to a 10:02 a.m. call, Puna patrol officers determined that League was traveling south on Highway 11 and operating a 1999 Vulcan motorcycle when he rear-ended a 1988 Pontiac two-door sedan also traveling south and making a right turn into the post office parking lot. The driver of the Pontiac, a 48-year-old woman from Mt. View, was not injured.

League was transported by Fire Rescue personnel to Hilo Medical Center, where he died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was not wearing a helmet. It was not immediately known whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a standard negligent homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with any information about this crash is asked to call Officer Wendall Carter of the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 961-2293.

This is the 13th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with the same number at this time last year.
