OFFICER OF THE MONTH – Officer Sandor Finkey of the Puna Patrol is congratulated by Joey Estrella, chairman of the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii, for being named Officer of the Month for January 2005.

Officer Sandor Finkey of the Puna Patrol District was named Police Officer of the Month for January 2005 by the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii.

Finkey received the award during a luncheon meeting Thursday (March 3, 2005) at Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel.

Nominated by Sergeant Brandon Konanui, Finkey was recognized for apprehending two suspects after receiving a report of an armed male suspect outside of a residence on Stardust Drive in the Ainaloa subdivision in Puna.

Concerned for the welfare of the people in the residence, Finkey drove up Ainaloa Boulevard even though his police backup was about 10 minutes away.

While traveling up Ainaloa Boulevard, police dispatch reported that the suspects had left the residence in a primer gray pickup truck with an unknown license plate.

Recognizing the pickup truck, Finkey ordered the vehicle to pull to the side of the road. After his backup unit arrived, the officers apprehended George and Leonard Alcosiba. They also found a handgun on George Alcosiba.
