The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaiʻi recognized Officer Lloyd Ishikawa on Thursday (June 23) as “Officer of the Month” for June.
The Puna patrol officer was honored for persistently and diligently tracking a man for months who was wanted on a warrant for violating parole.
Acting Captain Glenn Uehana, who nominated Ishikawa for the honor, said that by using contacts in the community, Ishikawa consistently gained solid leads about the suspect’s whereabouts but that the suspect would flee before officers were close enough to apprehend him.
In March, Ishikawa tracked the suspect to a vacant property, where the man was asleep in a stolen car. With the assistance of backup officers, Ishikawa safely arrested the man and took him into custody.
As “Officer of the Month,” Ishikawa is eligible for “Officer of the Year.” He was named “Officer of the Year” for 2010.
The East Hawaiʻi “Officer of the Month” award is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo.
