Media Release

The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai’i recognized Puna Patrol Officer Kayne Kelii on Thursday (July 23) as “Officer of the Month” for May.

Kelii was honored during a luncheon ceremony at Coqui’s Hideaway Restaurant in Hilo for his diligent investigation that led to the arrest of a man who stole a woman’s pickup truck and left her stranded in a remote area with no communication. The investigation also led to the recovery of the truck.

“If not for the diligent efforts of Officer Kelii, the swift and successful conclusion to this investigation would not have occurred,” said his supervisor, Sergeant Juergen Canda.

As “Officer of the Month,” Kelii is eligible for “Officer of the Year.”

The East Hawaii “Officer of the Month” award is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo.
