The Hawai’i Police Department is requesting the public’s help in providing information about a reported robbery at the Hilo Shopping Center parking lot on Monday, June 29.

A 26-year-old Kea’au woman reported that a male approached her at 3:10 p.m. as she was unlocking her sports-utility vehicle. He grabbed her purse, which was slung across her body, and continued walking, causing the purse strap to break.

The woman sustained an injury to her left lower neck.

The suspect is described as a local male, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 with a medium build and short dark hair. He was wearing dark pants or shorts and a white shirt with a black logo or wording on the back. He was last see walking toward Kilauea Avenue with the victim’s purse.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any other information about the case call Lieutenant Mitchell Kanehailua at 961-2252 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
