Media Release

The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai’i recognized Officers Courtney Bello and Andres Fojas Jr. on Thursday (September 24) as “Officer of the Month” for July and August, respectively.

Bello was recognized for arresting a man suspected of breaking into cars in and around Ahalanui Beach Park in Puna. The arrest followed 30 reported cases in the area from January 1 through July 21. After the arrest the break-ins stopped. The suspect was charged with two felonies. Several other cases stemming from his arrest were routed to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Fojas was recognized for arresting a man who fled to avoid a DUI sobriety checkpoing in Hilo on August 18. The man had drugs in the car and paraphernalia associated with drug distribution. He was charged with methamphetamine trafficking, promoting dangerous drugs, and two counts each of promoting a detrimental drug and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $23,000.

Bello and Fojas received their awards at a luncheon ceremony at Coqui’s Hideaway Restaurant in Hilo.

As “Officer of the Month,” both officers are eligible for “Officer of the Year.”
