Police arrest 15 in Waimea drug sweep 05-07-03

Big Island police raided four residences in Waimea and arrested 15 persons Wednesday (May 7, 2003) for various drug offenses.

Armed with search warrants, Kona Vice Section officers were joined in the raid by officers from Community Policing, Kona Patrol, Kona Criminal Investigation Section, Kona Juvenile Aid Section and Criminal Intelligence Unit and agents of the U.S. Customs Service.

The officers also recovered undetermined amounts of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, Schedule 3 drugs, a firearm with ammunition and U.S. currency.

Police made the drug sweep in response to numerous complaints from neighborhood residents.

Arrested at the first residence, an apartment complex, were four individuals. They were identified as:

  • Jerome Kaaekuahiwi, 44, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs, promoting detrimental drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Tammy Kaaekuahiwi, 48, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs, promoting detrimental drugs, promoting harmful drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • T.J. Kaaekuahiwi, 20, arrested for promoting detrimental drugs.
  • A 15-year-old male juvenile for promoting detrimental drugs.

Arrested at the second residence were five individuals. They were identified as:

  • Lanelle Artuyo, 47, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Ronald Majamay, 35, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs.
  • Hailama Tromba, 39, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of paraphernalia.
  • Kasey AhSam, 18, arrested promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Juvenile female 17, arrested as a runaway.

Arrested at the third residence, an apartment complex, was one person, identified as Irma Freitas, 52. She was arrested for promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.

Arrested at the fourth residence were five persons. They were identified as:

  • Ramona Lopez, 41, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Jose Morales, 56, arrested for promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Eduardo Lopez, 18, arrested for promoting detrimental drugs.
  • Two female juveniles. A 15-year-old was arrested for promoting dangerous drugs and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, and a 17-year-old was arrested for promoting detrimental drugs.

The juveniles were released pending further investigation. The adults were being held overnight at the Kona police cellblock.
