Police are seeking information about a truck break-in that occurred Wednesday (August 13, 2003) in Hilo.

About 9:15 to 9:30 a.m., the owner discovered a male wearing a white cap, sunglasses and shorts breaking into his truck, a 1991 Mazda pickup parked across from 76 Kamehameha Avenue.

The owner chased the thief up Shipman Street, but the thief turned left and ran into an alleyway going towards Waianuenue Avenue and got away.

Police described the truck as maroon-colored with a white camper top.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen a male running in the area that Wednesday morning is asked to call Detective John Ancheta of the East Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section at 961-2276 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
