Police seek thief who stole construction tools 05-24-04

Big Island police are looking for a thief or thieves who stole construction tools from a van in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Puna.

Puna police said the tools, valued at $4,000, were taken between May 21 and May 23, 2004, from the van, which was parked at 27th Street and Kaloli Drive.

Among the tools taken were three framing guns, a 12-inch Dewalt chop saw and a two-horsepower compressor.

Police said the tools are marked with the initials “DS” and the social security number of owner.

They are advising members of the public not to purchase any tools with these markings.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Officer Michael DeCoito of the Puna Patrol at 966-5839 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept strictly confidential.
