…charged with attempted murder

Media Release (update)

A Crime Stoppers tip has led to the arrest of a 48-year-old Oahu man wanted in connection with an attempted murder investigation on the Big Island.

Honolulu police arrested 48-year-old Fred Silva III on an arrest warrant Wednesday morning in Waianae. He was charged with attempted murder and is being held on Oahu until Hawaii County police return him to the Big Island within the next several days.

On November 25, a Puna man was hospitalized after being woken overnight by a man who entered his Fern Forest home and began beating him with a rubber mallet and a baseball bat. The victim fell unconscious and sustained numerous broken bones and internal injuries.

After the victim provided the partial identity of his attacker, police issued the arrest warrant for Silva. He had recently been released from the Department of Public Safety after serving a 20-year term for a 1986 manslaughter conviction on Oahu.
