Puna police are seeking the public’s help in solving the burglary of a construction site late Monday (September 13, 1999) or early Tuesday in Keaau.

Employees of M. Sonomura Contracting Company arrived for work at the Keaau School construction site early Tuesday to discover thieves had entered three Matson containers and two portable construction office buildings and stole about $15,000 in equipment and tools.

Among the items stolen were a caulking pump; a pressure washer; two laser levels, one valued at $6,000 and the other at $3,000); and assorted tools.

Anyone with information about the burglary or those responsible is asked to call Puna Patrol at 966-5830.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
