MEDIA RELEASE

On May 20, 1999, at about 6:15 p.m., Puna police officers and Hawaii Fire Department emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a reported shooting at a business establishment in Pahoa Village.

Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old male with a single gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Brennen Balancio of a Pahoa address. He was transported to the Hilo Medical Center emergency room, where he is listed in fair condition.

The initial investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between two groups of males culminating in the shooting of Balancio.

Police have initiated a first-degree assault case, and Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing the investigation.
