Suspect, 63, Arrested in Shooting Incident 09-16-01

A 63-year-old South Kona man was arrested for attempted murder in which he allegedly fired a shot at another man during a dispute Sunday (September 16, 2001).

Responding to a 10 a.m. call, Kona patrol units to an address at 83-5447 Middle Keei Road in South Kona. On arrival, they determined that an argument had begun between the suspect and a 54-year-old man. During the argument the suspect, identified as John Ilagan, pulled a rifle from his truck and fired one round, which narrowly missed his intended victim and struck a pickup truck behind.

The suspect then put the rifle in his truck and left the scene. He later turned himself into police.

The suspect is being held pending further investigation by the Kona Criminal Investigation Section.
