Suspect Charged in Puna Shooting 11-06-01

Police have charged a 40-year-old man with several felony offenses stemming from a shooting incident that occurred Sunday night (November 4, 2001) in the Seaview Estates subdivision of Puna.

The suspect, identified as Kevin Anthony Sulgit, of a Mapuana Street address, was charged at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday (November 6, 2001) with seven counts of first-degree reckless endangering, one count of first-degree of criminal property damage and one count of a prohibited place to keep firearms. All are felony charges.

Sulgit is being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $11,000 bail.

The suspect was arrested after a shooting incident that occurred about 11 p.m. Sunday when Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting incident in Seaview Estates.

On arrival, the officers learned that the victim, identified as Michael Patrick Hartman, 20, of a Seaview Estates address, suffered a head wound and had been taken to the Pahoa Fire Station by another person. From there, fire rescue personnel took the victim to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated for a grazing head wound and released.
