MEDIA RELEASE

Two male suspects were charged Thursday (November 29, 2001) with burglary, extortion and terroristic threatening for an incident that occurred earlier in the week.

The suspects were identified as Anthony Luppino Jr., 37, and Anson Cordero, 44, both of an East Mamaki Street address in Hilo. They are being held in the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $17,000 bail each.

The suspects were arrested Wednesday evening for an incident Monday in which they allegedly had gone to a rooming house in Hilo’s Puueo area to look for a man who they said had promised to lend them money. After the two suspects learned that the victim wasn’t at home and were told to leave by other residents, the suspects left.

Later, however, one of the residents discovered a guitar missing from the house. And after the victim had returned home, the suspects allegedly called him and demanded that he pay them $200 and threatened him with a gun.
