A 63-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon (May 14, 2003) after he was found face down in ocean waters off Kapoho, Puna.

The victim was identified as Steven Dragon, of a Kapoho area address.

Responding to a 2:40 p.m. call, police found that the victim had been pulled unconscious from the water by other swimmers, and a medically trained neighbor had begun attempts to revive him.

Fire rescue personnel took the victim to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m.

Police have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
