Media Release

The Hawaiʻi Police Department has added to its website a link to a service that allows victims and witnesses to be notified when undocumented foreign nationals are released from the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Often, undocumented foreign nationals are deported to their country of origin after being released from state or federal prison. In the interim, ICE typically takes the aliens into custody. When an alien is released from ICE custody or deported, the Victim Notification Program can alert eligible victims and witnesses who have signed up for notification about that specific person.

This notification program is separate from the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program that allows citizens to monitor the status of Hawaiʻi inmates in jail or prison.

The ICE “Victim Notification Program” link can be found on the Police Department’s website on the “Related Links” page.

For more information and to request notification, visit the “Victim Notification Program” page on the Department of Homeland Security’s ICE  website.
