The body of an elderly woman visiting from Japan was found Friday night (July 30, 1999) floating face down in waters off a Waikoloa resort hotel.

The victim was identified as Asako Murata, 74, of Kyoto, Japan.

Murata was visiting Hawaii with family members. While at the hotel, family members reported her missing to hotel personnel, and a search for the victim began at 9 p.m.

Shortly before midnight, the victim’s body was found floating offshore.
