Acting on a search warrant last week, South Kohala Patrol officers arrested and charged a 26-year-old Waimea man with various criminal offenses resulting from the use of a stolen credit card and possessing illegal drugs.

The suspect, identified as Samuel F. Torres, was arrested and charged Friday (November 1, 2002) with 23 counts for various criminal offenses.

On Thursday, officers executed a search warrant on the suspect’s residence and recovered a number of items purchased with a stolen credit card at several stores in the Waimea area. The items recovered included a diving spear, a number of toys and a video camera — all valued at an estimated $1,000.

Police also recovered 17.8 grams of dried marijuana, a small amount of crystal methamphetamine and various drug paraphernalia at the suspect’s home.

The suspect was charged with one count of promoting a dangerous drug, one count of promoting a detrimental drug, one count of theft of a credit card, one count of fraudulent use of a credit card, eight counts of forgery and seven counts of theft as well as other criminal offenses.

Torres was released on $10,550 bail.
