Big Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 23-year-old man wanted for question in connection with a shooting incident near the Hakalau mill last week.

Jarrett Mcatee is described as 5-foot-6 with black hair, brown eyes and a slim-to-medium build. He is known to frequent the Hilo and Honomu areas. 

On the evening of May 1 at about 9 p.m., South Hilo patrol officers responded to the reported shooting in Hakalau near the shoreline by the Hakalau mill.  Investigating officers discovered that a parked vehicle had been shot multiple times.  Although there were campers nearby, no one was injured.

Mcatee is considered armed and dangerous.  As such, members of the community are strongly cautioned against approaching him. Anyone who sees him should call the police.

Police ask anyone with any information about Mcatee’s whereabouts to call Detective Reed Mahuna of the Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2384 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.
