10-18-21 Police Seek Public’s Assistance in School Burglary Investigation

As part of their investigation into a school burglary that occurred in upper Puna, Hawai‘i Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance for information regarding the incident.  

At 7:05 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021, Puna Patrol officers responded to a report of a burglary at a school in the Volcano area. Staff reported that a break-in occurred sometime between 7:00 p.m., Sunday October 17, 2021, and 5:00 a.m. Monday morning during which numerous electronic items were taken.

During the course of investigation, officers determined that suspect(s) pried open a classroom door, taking 11 laptops and two video projectors. Valued at more than $4,300. The suspect(s) also attempted to pry open a storage trailer but were unsuccessful.

Investigators say it appears that the suspect(s) knew the layout of the premises.
