MEDIA RELEASE

The Hilo Community Policing Unit and Hawaii Police Activities League are signing up teams for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to be held August 11-13, 2000, at Lokahi Park.

The aim of the tournament, to be held in cooperation with the Pamala Place Neighborhood Watch group, is to involve young people in the Lokahi area in youth activities. Community policing officers will be present at the tournament games to answer any questions from members of the public interested in forming a neighborhood watch group.

The basketball teams will compete in the following age groups — 8 & under, 9 & 10 and 11 & 12. The birthdate cutoff is December 31, 2000.

Teams wishing to sign up for the tournament are asked to call Community Policing Officer Elson Cabatu at 961-2350 or Dennis Onishi, HI-PAL recreation director, at 961-2219.
